U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin says the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded a grant of more than $1 million to the Springfield Airport Authority.

The money is to be used to acquire land for aircraft approaches, rehabilitate a runway and improve safety and security at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport.
