While President Obama was in the gulf today, BP was asking Sen. Durbin here in Chicago what federal legislation is necessary to prevent another oil spill.
Number one, Durbin wants to tighten up the requirements to get a federal permit for off shore drilling.
"Those who are going into this deep sea drilling, this tough drilling, are drilling in regions of the earth that are very seldom explored. And many times we find that they don't have the necessary technology and equipment to protect the environment."
And Durbin says we've got to stop letting oil industry managers become oil industry regulators.
