Loyola CTA station gets $18M for rehab project

The Loyola CTA station will soon see major improvements thanks to an award of more than $18 million in funding.

The money will be used to begin immediate repairs to the dilapidated station located at Sheridan and Loyola. It will also be used to conduct an environmental study on the extension and modernization of the Red and Purple lines.

Senator Dick Durbin joined elected officials and CTA representatives at the station for the announcement. He listed some of the improvements from the project that will benefit train passengers.

"It will include upgrades to the viaduct, better lighting and visibility for safety," Durbin said. "The project will also move the station entrance a little further north and this will increase safety for pedestrians."

The design work for the project is already under way and construction is slated to begin next spring.
