Durbin And Duckworth Host First Illinois Constituent Coffee Of 115th Congress

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) today hosted the first Illinois Constituent Coffee of the 115th Congress is Washington, D.C.  The tradition was started by U.S. Senator Paul Simon (D-IL) in 1985 and has continued with Senator Durbin hosting with then-Senators Carol Moseley Braun, Peter Fitzgerald, Barack Obama, Roland Burris, and Mark Kirk.

“In 1985, my mentor, Senator Paul Simon, launched the Illinois Hospitality Breakfast series.  For one hour, every Thursday morning the Senate is in session, Senator Simon invited his constituents visiting Washington, D.C. for coffee and a conversation.  Today, we simply call it constituent coffee. And I’m proud to continue this tradition with Senator Duckworth by my side,” said Durbin.

“It’s important for me to hear directly from the people I represent,” said Duckworth.  “I’m grateful that I could meet with constituents this morning over coffee and donuts to discuss the needs of hardworking Illinois families alongside my dear friend and colleague, Senator Durbin.”
