Durbin Announces $1.3 Million in Recovery Act Funding for Eaton Water District in Annapolis
[WASHINGTON, D.C] – Assistant Senate Majority Leader Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded a $1,375,000 loan with funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to the Eaton Water District in Annapolis, Illinois. Today’s funding announcement is part of a nationwide announcement of $125 million in funding for water and environmental projects that will help provide safe drinking water and improved wastewater treatment systems for rural towns and communities in 25 states.
Eaton Water District, which serves residents in northern Crawford County, will use this loan to provide safe water to 70 new households east of Annapolis. The district will use the funds to replace the existing water tower and install 25 miles of water main, expanding their water distribution system by more than 70 percent. The expansion is expected to ease the residents’ concerns about contaminated water in nearby wells. This award brings Recovery Act funding for water systems in Illinois to $6.67 million.
