Durbin Announces $2 Million for Statewide Teacher Training Initiative
[WASHINGTON, DC] – U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, said today that the omnibus appropriations bill signed into law by President Obama this week includes at least $2 million for the Teaching with Primary Sources program in Illinois.
Durbin said the $2 million will come from the Library of Congress for continuation of teacher training initiatives in Illinois. Teaching with Primary Sources is a teacher training initiative that instructs educators in ways to incorporate the Library of Congress’ digital collections into school curricula.
The following Illinois educational institutions will receive funding through this program: Southern Illinois University (Carbondale and Edwardsville); Loyola University-Chicago; DePaul University, Chicago; Governors State University, Kankakee; Federation of Independent Illinois Colleges and Universities, Springfield; Barat Education Foundation, Lake Forest; Eastern Illinois University, Charleston; Illinois State University, Normal; Rockford College, Rockford; and Quincy University, Quincy.
