[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – Assistant Senate Majority Leader Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced that the Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded a $1,189,635 On the Job Training/Supportive Services grant to the Illinois Department of Transportation. Today’s funding will be used to fund apprenticeships and training centers for Illinoisans pursuing careers in the transportation, engineering, and construction sectors.

This funding is part of nearly $12 million in grants announced by the DOT today.  The On the Job Training/Supportive Services grant program promotes training opportunities for women and minorities who continue to be underrepresented in some transportation sectors, such as highway construction, masonry, and carpentry.
