Durbin Announces More Than $3.3 Million for Illinois Health Centers to Expand Healthcare Enrollment Assistance
Chicago health centers to receive grants totaling nearly $1.5 million
[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced a total of $3,358,809 in funding through the Affordable Care Act to hire 132 additional healthcare workers at community health centers throughout Illinois to help individuals and families enroll into affordable health insurance plans. This funding, provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will help these centers expand outreach and enrollment assistance efforts as more Illinoisans are able to access affordable health insurance coverage through the healthcare reform law.
“Community health centers serve an important purpose for families in Illinois and across the country,” Durbin said. “With the help of these federal resources, made available through the Affordable Care Act, Illinois health centers can provide expanded assistance for individuals looking for resources to help them understand their insurance options and enroll into affordable health insurance plans coverage.”
Illinois has 42 health centers with 548 sites that served 1,142,381 patients last year, nearly 30 percent of them uninsured. With their Outreach and Enrollment funding, the health centers listed below expect to hire 132 additional workers, who will assist 195,745 people with enrollment into affordable health insurance coverage.
