Durbin Announces Senate Democratic Whip Operations For 119th Congress
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced that the following Senators were selected to be members of the Senate Democratic Whip operation for the 119th Congress: Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI), Chief Deputy Whip; Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Deputy Whip; and Senator Tina Smith, Deputy Whip; as well as Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Jacky Rosen (D-NV), Ben Ray Lujan (D-NM), and Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE).
“The November 5th election showed that our nation remains divided, and we face many challenges ahead. The Senate Democratic Caucus is in a unique position next Congress to work in a bipartisan way with our Republican colleagues while maintaining our commitment to stand up for our values. I’m pleased to continue working with these Senators, and welcome Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester, as members of the Whip operation to meet the challenges our nation faces,” Durbin said.
“The work we do on the Senate Floor will be critical over the next two years as we defend our priorities and build on the progress we’ve made delivering for the American people,” said Schatz, Chief Deputy Whip. “There is a lot to do.
