Durbin, Duckworth Announce $2.9 Million For Illinois Veterans' Homes To Protect Against COVID-19

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) today announced that Illinois State Veterans’ Homes have received a total of $2.9 million in additional federal grant funding to ensure residents continue to receive high quality care and are protected from COVID-19. The funding was awarded by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and was appropriated by Congress in the COVID-19 relief package passed in December.

“Throughout this pandemic and beyond, it is critical that our state-run veterans’ homes provide the highest quality of care to their residents. That’s why we fought to include these investments in our federal relief efforts,” Durbin said. “Senator Duckworth and I remain committed at the federal level to provide any and all assistance to support veterans in Illinois.”

“Every American deserves to be protected from this virus—including Veterans who served our nation” Duckworth said. “This investment will help keep Veterans and staff at Illinois Veterans Homes safe by supporting IDVA’s necessary measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 and other contagious diseases. Senator Durbin and I will continue to advocate for our state's heroes during this public health crisis and beyond."
