Durbin, Duckworth Announce $57 Million In Funding For Elementary School On North Chicago Naval Base

CHICAGO - U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) today announced the award of a $57,701,575 grant to North Chicago School District 187 at Naval Station Great Lakes, Illinois from the Department of Defense (DoD).

The project will address facility capacity and condition deficiencies at Forrestal Elementary School. Upon completion, 580 kindergarten through fifth grade students will be supported through the project. Funding for this grant is provided under the DoD’s Public Schools on Military Installations Program.

When we invest in education, we help provide students with the tools they need to succeed both in and outside of the classroom,” said Durbin. “I will continue working with Senator Duckworth to support our exemplary military families at Naval Station Great Lakes and their access to quality education.”

“Ensuring our military families are supported includes making sure that our schools on military bases have the resources they need to provide high-quality education to students,” Duckworth said. “I’m proud to help secure this funding for District 187, and I’ll keep working to ensure we’re supporting our military families and local school districts.”
