Durbin, Duckworth Announce More Than $19 Million For Health Care Research In Illinois

CHICAGO – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) today announced $19,453,291 in U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) biomedical research grants for Illinois institutions. The funding, which comes from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), will be put toward research programs across the state to support medical advancement in various fields, ranging from cancer prevention to mental health research.

“Investing in the development of new cures and treatments allows us to expand our understanding of diseases that plague families across the country, which is why I have fought so hard for robust and sustained increases in funding for the National Institutes of Health” said Durbin. “This federal funding will give Illinois’ world-class institutions the resources they need to help save lives.”

“By increasing support for medical research, we can help deliver real public health results for Illinois families,” Duckworth said. “I will keep working with Senator Durbin to help make sure organizations and researchers have the federal support they need to improve research, provide accessible care and help save lives.”
