Durbin, Duckworth, Bustos Announce $5.8 Million For Chicago Rockford International Airport
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), along with U.S. Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (D-IL-17), today announced $5.8 million in federal funding for Chicago Rockford International Airport. The funding, which is from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), will be used for the construction of a larger cargo apron to meet growing demand.
“Chicago Rockford International Airport is not only a vital transportation asset, it’s an economic driver for all of Northern Illinois,” Durbin said. “Thanks to continued federal investment, the ongoing expansion and upgrades at RFD will create jobs and ensure we can keep up with increased air cargo demands. I look forward to continuing to work with Senator Duckworth and Congresswoman Bustos to bring these investments to Rockford.”
“Chicago Rockford International Airport is an important economic engine for the Stateline area and today’s funding will help the airport expand and make it even safer and more reliable,” Duckworth said. “I’ll keep working with Senator Durbin and Congresswoman Bustos to make sure RFD receives important federal resources to allow it to continue expanding passenger and cargo service while supporting good-paying jobs for hardworking Illinoisans.”
“Our region depends on the Chicago Rockford International Airport as a backbone for our local economy and provides jobs for our Rockford community. I’m glad to see an increase in federal investment that will allow RFD to continue to grow. I’m pleased to join Senators Durbin and Duckworth to announce this critical funding for expansion and upgrades so that RFD can continue to serve our communities,” Bustos said.
Since 2015, Durbin, Duckworth, and Bustos have helped secure more than $50 million in federal funds for Rockford Airport for its ongoing expansions.
