Durbin, Duckworth Meet With Bloomington-Normal One Voice Coalition
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) today met with members of the Bloomington-Normal Economic Development Council, accompanied by the One Voice coalition comprised of members of local government, labor, education, health, and business sectors. During their meeting, the Senators and the group discussed how the passage of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act can support infrastructure projects in Central Illinois. The group updated the Senators on current local priorities, including water infrastructure upgrades to the largely undeveloped North Service Area, constructing a new air cargo road at the Central Illinois Regional Airport, and adding storm sewers to the most flood-prone areas of Uptown Normal.
“The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act marks the beginning of a new era of infrastructure in our country,” said Durbin. “Senator Duckworth and I had an engaging conversation with Bloomington-Normal leaders today about how that bipartisan legislation will positively impact the region and its economy.”
“As a hub of agriculture, manufacturing, technology and innovation, Illinois is uniquely prepared to help bring our world into the future,” Duckworth said. “We’re seeing how critical support from laws like the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the CHIPS and Science Act can grow our local economies, and I’m eager to work with our local leaders to do more and support our state from the federal level. Senator Durbin and I will keep working with dedicated government, business and labor leaders, like the members of Bloomington-Normal One Voice, to support Central Illinois and see our local economies thrive.”
