Durbin, Duckworth Statement on Judiciary Committee Advancing Nomination of David Davis to Serve as U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Illinois

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) today released the following statement after the Senate Judiciary Committee advanced the nomination of David C. Davis to serve as United States Marshal for the Southern District of Illinois.  Based on recommendations made by the screening committee the Senators established in the Southern District, Durbin and Duckworth forwarded the names of individuals to President Biden for consideration for this position, including Mr. Davis.

David Davis has the qualifications, integrity, and judgment to serve with distinction as a U.S. Marshal in the Southern District of Illinois.  He has decades of experience in the U.S. Marshals Service—serving and protecting the people of the Southern District.  We are pleased to see his nomination advance through the Senate Judiciary Committee today, and will continue to guide his nomination through the Senate until confirmation.”

Last year, Durbin and Duckworth established three screening committees to review candidates for U.S. Attorney and U.S. Marshal positions in Illinois.  Their screening committees are comprised of distinguished members of Illinois’ legal community, including former judges, prosecutors, defenders, litigators, academics, legal aid attorneys, and law enforcement leaders.

The committees have carefully evaluated candidates by reviewing their professional records and application questionnaires, contacting references, and conducting interviews, and have submitted their findings and recommendations to the Senators.  Durbin and Duckworth have interviewed the finalists, reviewed their records, and consulted with each other regarding their qualifications.

Now that Mr. Davis’ nomination has received a vote in Committee, his nomination will next receive a vote by the full Senate.

Mr. Davis’ biography from the White House is included below:
