Durbin, Illinois AFL-CIO Discuss Dream And Promise Act

SPRINGFIELD – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee and original author of the Dream Act, today discussed the House-passed American Dream and Promise Act with members of the Illinois AFL-CIO in a conference call.

“The Senate should take up and pass the Dream and Promise Act to begin fixing our nation’s broken immigration system,” Durbin said. “We also need to move quickly to pass comprehensive immigration reform.  I’ll keep working in Congress to make both efforts a reality.”

The Dream and Promise Act passed in the U.S. House of Representatives last month with bipartisan support.  The legislation would establish a path to citizenship for Dreamers and immigrants with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or Deferred Enforced Departure (DED).  Durbin first introduced the Dream Act twenty years ago.
