Durbin: Improving Air Quality at Union Station Must be Top Priority
[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) released the following statement today after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a new study showing dangerously high levels of air pollution on train platforms at Union Station
“The results of the EPA’s air quality study are alarming and unacceptable. I will be calling on the EPA to install 24-hour monitoring equipment, which will improve our ability to assess the scope of the problem and possible remedies,” Durbin said. “I’ve also asked Amtrak to commission its own air monitoring study and look forward to receiving those results soon. Improving air quality should be a top priority as Union Station undergoes a long-overdue renovation. The health of the thousands of commuters and visitors who stream in and out of the building everyday must be protected.”
The results of the EPA study are available here.
