Durbin Meets Virtually with University of Illinois

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) met virtually with University of Illinois trustees, administrators, faculty, and students to discuss higher education affordability, including Pell Grants and open textbooks, and the recently passed American Rescue Plan. On the call, Durbin also praised the COVID-19 testing program developed by the university, SHIELD, which is now being used in more than 80 facilities across Illinois.

“The University of Illinois is an institution that offers students a quality education and conducts scientific research that contributes to innovations in health care,” said Durbin. “I enjoyed the opportunity to talk with current students and administrators to learn more about the exciting advancements happening on campus and to discuss how the federal government can continue to support the university’s mission.”
