Durbin Meets With Champaign County Officials To Discuss Transportation Priorities

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today met with delegates from Champaign County First who were in Washington, D.C. for their annual fly-in. Durbin and the group discussed transportation priorities, including job-creating high speed rail and road construction projects. “Champaign County First serves as an important local voice within its community,” Durbin said. “I was happy to meet with the group members to discuss ways to support transportation initiatives and local economic development.”

 

Attendees at today’s meeting included: Mayor Don Gerard, City of Champaign; Laura Weis, President & CEO Champaign County Chamber of Commerce; Ryan Roth, Public Policy Director, Champaign County Chamber of Commerce; Tom Carrino, Economic Development Manager, City of Urbana; Bruce Knight, City Planner and Economic Development Director, City of Champaign; and Karl Gnadt, Managing Director Designate, Champaign Urbana Mass Transit District.

Champaign County First is a collaboration between the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce and the Champaign County Economic Development Corporation that has brought together local elected officials and business leaders from throughout the county. The group advocates on behalf of all the communities of Champaign County to build support for regional transportation, infrastructure, and economic development priorities.
