WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), a member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, today met with Dan Driscoll, President Donald Trump’s nominee to serve as the Secretary of the Army. During their meeting, Durbin spoke about the importance of maintaining an apolitical military during the Trump Administration, as well as making use of Rock Island Arsenal as a manufacturing hub.
Durbin also urged Mr. Driscoll, if confirmed, to field new Gray Eagle aircraft to the Army National Guard’s 38th Infantry Division in Illinois and Kentucky, for which Durbin secured $350 million in funding in Fiscal Year 2023 alongside U.S. Senator McConnell (R-KY).
“Today, I had an informative meeting with Dan Driscoll, who has been nominated to serve as Secretary of the Army,” Durbin said. “I spoke with him about the importance of utilizing Rock Island Arsenal and its Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center to its full potential. I also emphasized that, if confirmed, he should give full and fair consideration to the Army Guard’s 38th Division forfielding of new Gray Eagle aircraft.”
