WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today met with former Congresswoman Debbie Halvorson-Bush to discuss her nomination to serve as Chair of the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB). During their conversation, Durbin and Halvorson-Bush spoke about her extensive experience in government and her vision for the RRB.
“I recommended former Illinois Congresswoman Debbie Halvorson-Bush to serve as Chair of the Railroad Retirement Board because she has a long, impressive record in public service. In our meeting today, I was again reminded of why she is well-suited to take on this challenge,” said Durbin. “I urge my colleagues to support her nomination and usher in new leadership at the RRB.”

Prior to serving in Congress, Halverson-Bush served in the Illinois State Senate from 1997 to 2009. In 2005, she was elected as the first female Majority Leader of the Illinois State Senate.
Headquartered in Chicago, the RRB is tasked with administering retirement benefits, unemployment benefits, and Medicare coverage for the nation’s railroad workers and their families.
Durbin has previously expressed his support for Halvorson-Bush’s nomination, writing a letter to the Biden Administration advocating for her nomination, as well as releasing a public statement.
