Durbin Meets With FutureGen Alliance CEO Ken Humphreys

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) met with FutureGen Alliance CEO Ken Humphreys today to discuss the status of the FutureGen 2.0 project. The FutureGen Industrial Alliance is a non-profit membership organization that includes some of the largest coal producers, coal users, and coal equipment suppliers in the world. A photo of today’s meeting is available here.

“The FutureGen 2.0 project has the potential of making a lasting reduction in carbon dioxide while still using coal to generate energy. I was pleased to meet with the FutureGen CEO Ken Humphreys for an update on the project’s future in Central Illinois,” Durbin said.

The FutureGen 2.0 project plans to upgrade a coal-fired power plant in Meredosia, IL with oxy-combustion technology to capture more than 1 million tons of CO2 each year—more than 90 percent of the plant’s carbon emissions. The FutureGen 2.0 project and pipeline network is expected to bring 1,000 jobs to downstate Illinois and another 1,000 jobs for suppliers across the state.
