Durbin Meets With Illinois J Street Members
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today met with Illinois and national members of J Street to discuss the U.S.-Israeli relationship and challenges in the region. During the meeting, they discussed the importance of a two-state solution, further settlement expansion that undermines such a goal, and the continued threat posed by Iran.
“J Street understands the importance of a two-state solution for the Israeli and Palestinian people, and I hope that political leaders on both sides will find the political will to achieve this elusive yet critically important goal,” said Durbin. “As a longtime supporter of Israel, I am also concerned that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is dangerously putting his own narrow political and legal interests – and those of the troubling extremists in his coalition – ahead of the long term interests and needs of Israel’s democracy.”
