Durbin Meets with Illinois Superintendent of Education
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today met with Dr. Tony Sanders, Illinois Superintendent of Education, to discuss the future of assessments for students in Illinois and the importance of preparing students for postsecondary education.
Durbin and Dr. Sanders also spoke about securing resources to support schools that are taking on more students as migrants arrive in Illinois. Durbin has repeatedly urged congressional appropriators to steadily increase funding to support migrants in Illinois.
“The best investment we can make is to invest in the future of our children. It is essential that our schools have the funding to adequately educate and support our state’s youngest generation,” said Durbin. “I met with Dr. Tony Sanders, Illinois’ Superintendent of Education, to discuss how the federal government can best serve our schools in Illinois.”
