Durbin Meets With Mexican Ambassador Esteban Moctezuma

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today met virtually with Mexican Ambassador Esteban Moctezuma to discuss U.S.-Mexico relations, migration at the U.S.-Mexico border, the need for immigration reform in the U.S., and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Durbin and Ambassador Moctezuma talked about Durbin and Vice President Kamala Harris’ recent trip to the southern border and discussed the need to address the root causes of migration from the Northern Triangle.  The Senator also expressed support for the Biden Administration’s efforts to share COVID-19 vaccines with other countries around the world, including Mexico.

“The issues I discussed today with Ambassador Moctezuma – such as migration and the pandemic– must be addressed by Mexico in tandem with its allies, including the U.S.,” said Durbin. “I look forward to our two nations continuing to work together on common interests and democratic values."
