Durbin Meets with Naperville Chamber in Washington
[WASHINGTON, DC] – U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today met with members of the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce to discuss the Marketplace Fairness Act, legislation Durbin introduced earlier this year which would allow local brick-and-mortar retailers to compete more effectively against out-of-state internet sellers. Attendees of today’s meeting included Nicki Anderson, President and CEO of the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce, and others. A photo from today’s meeting is available here.
“I appreciate the support of the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce in efforts to level the playing field for brick-and-mortar retailers in Naperville and throughout Illinois,” Durbin said. “I was happy to meet with members of the group today to talk about ways to support small businesses in Naperville, and I look forward to working with the Chamber in the future.”
The Naperville Chamber of Commerce supports the Marketplace Fairness Act and hosted a Legislative Committee meeting in January to discuss the legislation. The Marketplace Fairness Act also has the support of more than 280 labor, business and government organizations while 15 Governors – 11 Republicans and 4 Democrats – have come out in support of leveling the playing field for businesses by addressing sales tax fairness.
