Durbin Meets With Office Of National Drug Control Policy Director Gupta

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, met with Dr. Rahul Gupta, M.D., Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) and the first medical doctor to lead this office.

Among other topics, Durbin and Gupta discussed ONDCP reauthorization, child online safety legislation that the Judiciary Committee advanced this summer, reform of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, and combating drug overdose deaths.

“I thank Dr. Gupta for meeting today to discuss critical issues impacting the health and safety of our country – and for his service as the first physician serving in this important role,” said Durbin. “The opioid crisis knows no bounds and impacts every zip code. We agreed that we must all continue doing our part to help curb this epidemic, including social media companies. I look forward to working with Dr. Gupta further as we continue our all-hands-on-deck approach to protecting our communities.”
