Durbin Meets With Supreme Court Nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today released the following statement after meeting with Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, President Biden’s nominee to the Supreme Court:

“This is a moment of great historical significance.  In the Court’s history, there have been 115 Justices and not one of them has been a Black woman.  With this nomination, President Biden has taken a critical step towards making our highest court look more like America.  He has also put forth a nominee with outstanding credentials, an unimpeachable character, and a record of impartiality.

“Judge Jackson is well known to the Judiciary Committee.  We have examined her record three times before, and confirmed her on a bipartisan basis each time.

“As I announced today, Judge Jackson’s confirmation hearings will begin on March 21.  As Chair of the Committee, I’m determined to ensure that Senators have the opportunity to thoroughly consider the nominee’s record, and that the nominee is treated respectfully and receives a prompt confirmation vote.

“And I trust that, as the American people come to know Judge Jackson through our hearings, they will feel confident that she is extremely well qualified to serve on the nation’s highest court.”
