Durbin Meets with the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today met with Larita Clark, CEO of the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA) and Jorge Ramirez, Secretary and Treasurer, to discuss MPEA’s impact on the Chicago region and Illinois economy as the largest convention center in North America. Durbin and Clark also spoke about future plans for McCormick Square, including making infrastructure improvements to the convention center.
“Chicago’s major attractions, including Navy Pier and McCormick Square, strengthen the economy of Illinois,” said Durbin. “I appreciate the opportunity to speak with MPEA today about how I can support Chicago’s tourism.”

MPEA is a municipal corporation created by the Illinois General Assembly to attract trade shows, conventions, and public events to strengthen the economy of Illinois. MPEA, which manages McCormick Square, brings in more than three million travelers each year, and has generated more than $1 billion in economic impacts in 2023.
