Durbin, Schneider Announce A More Than $119,000 Investment in Libertyville First-Responder Capabilities

[WASHINGTON, DC] – U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Representative Brad Schneider (D-IL) announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded an $119,114 grant to the Libertyville Fire Department in the Libertyville, Illinois for operations and safety.  

“This federal funding will support the efforts of firefighters and first-responders to prevent fires and other types of emergencies when they occur in the communities they bravely serve,” Durbin said. “We must ensure Illinois’ fire departments have the tools necessary to protect them as they protect us.”

“Every day, our firefighters, police officers and first-responders selflessly place themselves in harm’s way in order to keep our communities safe,” said Schneider. “This grant funding will help ensure that the brave men and women at the Libertyville Fire Department have the resources they need to respond to fires and other emergencies.”

The funding is provided through the DHS’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) and Fire Prevention and Safety grant (FP&S) programs, which seek to strengthen the Nation’s overall level of preparedness and ability to respond to fire and fire related hazards. In Fiscal Year 2013, the program will award approximately $320.9 million directly to fire departments and non-affiliated EMS organizations to enhance their response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel with respect to fire and all other hazards.
