Durbin Speaks With U.S. Transportation Command, Discusses Military Readiness

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today spoke by phone with the Commander of U.S. Transportation Command (TRANSCOM) General Jacqueline D. Van Ovost about military readiness priorities including air refueling; sealift recapitalization; strategic airlift; and global command, control, and integration. During their call, Durbin recognized General Ovost’s support for the work of units across Illinois, including at Scott Air Force Base and Peoria Air National Guard Base.

“The airmen at Scott Air Force Base and the 182nd Wing in Peoria have demonstrated, time and time again, that they are capable of every mission they are tasked with. In speaking with General Van Ovost today, I reiterated that the 182nd Wing is well-equipped to receive an additional set of C-130Js,” said Durbin. “I also hope to see the Air Force reconsider any planned premature divestments that could result in gaps in the service’s strategic airlift and aerial refueling needs.”
