Dear Mayor Brereton and Belvidere City Council:

I write to you with regard to Chrysler’s Belvidere Assembly and Stamping plants. As I understand it, all indications point to an expansion of the Belvidere facilities in the near future. You and the Council should be proud of your efforts to date; you have been ceaseless in your efforts to create jobs and grow the local economy and any expansion of the Chrysler plant will be tremendous news for the residents of Belvidere and Boone County.

As you know, the Belvidere Assembly Plant and the Belvidere Satellite Stamping Plant employ highly skilled, efficient, and productive workers that have a long history of producing quality products.  I am pleased that Chrysler has also recognized the excellence of these facilities and is weighing options to grow their operations in Belvidere.

My office has been in touch with officials at Chrysler to encourage them to move forward as quickly as possible with an announcement regarding their future operations. It is my understanding that you and the city council are currently discussing potential incentives for Chrysler to help support their efforts to expand. Please know that I stand willing to work with you, the State of Illinois or any relevant federal agencies to make this expansion a reality.  Feel free to contact me if I or my office can be of assistance as you continue working through this process.

Sincerely,

Dick Durbin
United States Senator
