Durbin Statement Following Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s Meeting With U.S. Senate

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Co-Chair of the Senate Ukraine Caucus, released the following statement after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with United States Senators:

“For nearly 19 months, the Ukrainian people have put up a valiant fight against Russia’s renewed aggression—a fight that few thought they could win, but here they are, still standing.  This is, in part, due to President Zelenskyy’s tireless leadership and courageous determination for his country.

“President Zelenskyy was very clear in our meeting today: without U.S. support, Ukraine will lose the war.  For the United States to give a victory to Russia and Vladimir Putin is to surrender our leadership in the world and endangers Poland, the Baltics, and the next victim of Putin’s blood thirsty aggression.

“Putin cannot be changed, but he can be stopped in Ukraine.  We can start by passing the Biden Administration’s most recent supplemental funding request.  I’m going to do my part in the Senate to make sure we get that done, and I call on my colleagues to do the same.”

Durbin continues to urge his colleagues to pass the most recent supplemental funding request from the Biden Administration, which includes aid for Ukraine to combat Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked war.
