Durbin Statement On Appointment Of Debra Shore To Lead EPA Region 5
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) released the following statement after the Biden Administration announced that Debra Shore, current Chicago Metropolitan Water District Commissioner and Illinois resident, will be appointed to lead U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5:
“EPA Region 5 is home to some of the Midwest’s greatest assets, including the Great Lakes. But protecting our precious resources from persistent air, water, and land pollution issues is no small feat,” Durbin said. “With her years working for Illinoisans as an elected commissioner of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District and her commitment to correcting decades-long environmental injustices, Debra Shore is uniquely suited to serve the Midwest and take on this leadership role in protecting our natural resources for years to come. I look forward to working closely with her to ensure we leave a healthier Earth for our nation’s kids and grandkids.”
EPA Region 5 serves Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin, and 35 Native American tribes.
