WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Senate confirmed Mr. Kevin Ritz to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement regarding Mr. Ritz’s confirmation:
“Mr. Ritz is a seasoned trial attorney and an accomplished appellate practitioner with nearly 20 years of legal experience. His significant litigation background and extensive experience in federal court ensure that he will be a valuable addition to the Sixth Circuit.
“I congratulate Mr. Ritz on becoming the forty-fourth Circuit Court judge confirmed under the Biden-Harris Administration, and the latest example of the Senate Judiciary Committee advancing highly qualified nominees to bring balance to the federal judiciary.”
On May 9, 2024, Mr. Ritz’s nomination advanced out of the Committee in an 11-10 vote. Durbin introduced Mr. Ritz at his confirmation hearing and highlighted his impressive career in public service.
Today’s confirmation continues the Committee’s work filling judicial vacancies with highly qualified, diverse candidates who help ensure the fair and impartial administration of the American justice system.
Under the leadership of Chair Durbin, the Senate has confirmed 210 judges to lifetime appointments on the federal bench during the Biden-Harris administration. Following Mr. Ritz’s confirmation, sixteen lifetime judges – including four circuit court nominees and twelve district court nominees – are eligible for a vote on the Senate floor.
