Durbin Statement on FutureGen Alliance
[WASHINGTON, DC] – Assistant Senate Majority Leader Dick Durbin (D-IL) today released the following statement in regards to the changes to the FutureGen Alliance that were announced today:
“A few weeks ago the FutureGen Alliance overwhelmingly voted to enter into an agreement with the US Department of Energy to build the first large-scale, integrated carbon capture and sequestration plant,” said Durbin. “That commitment remains firm today. Since the Bush Administration cancelled the project a year and a half ago, the world and the economy have changed dramatically – so has the Alliance. The Alliance has lost and added new partners several times since it was first formed and as the project evolves over the next six months, I believe the Alliance will continue to grow in membership, in strength and in their partnership with the DOE.”
