Durbin Statement on General McDew's Senate Confirmation
[WASHINGTON, D.C.] - U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today released the following statement congratulating General Darren McDew on the confirmation of his appointment to the rank of General, from Lieutenant General, and for his assignment as Commander of Air Mobility Command, located at Scott Air Force Base.
“General McDew’s service with the 18th Air Force and understanding of the importance of Scott’s mission and community make him well qualified for this position,” said Durbin. “I want to congratulate him on his swift confirmation in the Senate. When we met during my recent visit to Scott Air Force Base, the General told me his family felt ‘at home’ at Scott. We are happy to welcome him to this important assignment.”
General Darren McDew was nominated on March 12, 2014 to take over as Commander of Air Mobility Command located at Scott Air Force Base where he is currently the Commander of the 18th Air Force. General McDew served previously at Scott as Commander of the 375th Air Mobility Wing and as Vice Commander of the 18th Air Force. He has served in numerous capacities in Washington, D.C., including as Chief of the U.S. Senate U.S. Air Force Liaison Division.
Durbin chairs the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, which oversees funding for the military and intelligence community, the nation’s national security requirements and the daily needs of over two million active duty and reserve service members. The Subcommittee also oversees funding for Overseas Contingency Operations, including the war in Afghanistan and other military operations worldwide. All told, the Subcommittee controls more than half of the nation’s annual discretionary budget.
