Durbin Statement On Passage Of Short-Term Government Funding Bill
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, released the following statement on Senate passage of the short-term Continuing Resolution (CR), which will fund the government through December 20:
“It’s disappointing that the best we can do is ‘keep the lights on’ when funding the government. Congress should be addressing issues that are important to the American people, not kicking the can down the road once again. Democrats want to work in good faith to put our appropriations process back on track. I hope Republicans will put politics aside and work with Democrats to deliver clean long-term funding bills when we return after the election—not repeated continuing resolutions. We owe it to the American taxpayers to complete the government funding process. It’s our job.”
