Durbin Statement On Senate Passage Of Honoring Our PACT Act

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today released the following statement after the U.S. Senate passed the bipartisan Honoring Our PACT Act, legislation that will expand eligibility for health care for veterans suffering from toxic exposure in the line of duty:

“When Americans sign up to serve our country in the military, we promise that we will not leave them behind. The Senate honored our veterans’ service today with the passage of the PACT Act, which will give new hope to veterans suffering from the effects of toxic exposure during their time on the battlefield. For more than 3.5 million veterans, this vote will mean a chance at a healthier life. I look forward to seeing President Biden swiftly sign the PACT Act into law.

“Today’s vote should’ve been accomplished last week, but Senate Republicans chose to use our veterans as pawns in a political game. I would hope my colleagues will think twice in the future before stalling legislation to improve veterans’ access to health care.”

Having passed both the Senate and the House, the Honoring Our Pact Act now heads to President Biden’s desk.
