Durbin Statement On Senate Passage Of The Inflation Reduction Act
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today released the following statement after the U.S. Senate passed the Inflation Reduction Act, groundbreaking legislation that will fight inflation, make drug prices more affordable, reduce costs, and make the nation’s largest investment in our share of the climate fight ever:
“Senate Democrats have heard the American people: do something to fight inflation, lower prescription drug prices, and combat the climate crisis. Today’s historic legislation will do just that. The Inflation Reduction Act will deploy American-made clean energy to cut greenhouse gas emissions and energy costs, cut families’ health care costs, and finally allow Medicare to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies for fair prices, a long overdue provision to help the over two million Illinoisans on Medicare.
“We know Americans are feeling the brunt of inflation. This plan is fully paid for by finally cracking down on Big Pharma greed and tax cheats, and closing tax loopholes exploited by wealthy corporations to avoid paying their fair share of taxes—and no one earning less than $400,000 a year will pay more in taxes because of our plan.
“This bill is fair, it’s paid for, it fights inflation, and it lowers the deficit. It’s exactly what American families need.”
