Durbin Statement on the Death of Stan Musial
[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today made the following statement on the death of Baseball Hall of Famer Stan Musial. Durbin attended a February 2011 ceremony at the White House where President Obama awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Musial, widely recognized as one of the greatest baseball players in history, who dedicated 22 years to the game of baseball, served in the Navy during World War II and committed the rest of his life to public service and the St. Louis community.
“In this age of betrayal, it is good to know that the hero of my youth was indeed a genuine and good person, not to mention one of baseball's greatest,” said Durbin. “My first baseball glove, autographed by Stan Musial on the day he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Obama, is something I will always treasure.”
