Durbin Talks Military Readiness with U.S. Transportation Command
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), a member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, today spoke by phone with the Commander of U.S. Transportation Command (TRANSCOM) General Jacqueline D. Van Ovost. TRANSCOM, headquartered at Scott Air Force Base, is tasked with providing air, land, and sea transportation around the world for the Department of Defense (DOD).
During their call, Durbin and General Van Ovost discussed military logistical operations and TRANSCOM’s efforts to deliver security assistance as part of the operation to support Ukraine and NATO allies, including more than 660 million pounds of equipment to the Ukrainian military. General Van Ovost also provided details about TRANSCOM’s support in the Middle East, including delivery of security assistance to Israel and humanitarian aid for Gaza.
“TRANSCOM, headquartered at Scott Air Force Base, is an asset both to Illinois and our nation as a whole. Today, I spoke with General Van Ovost about TRANSCOM’s mission and leadership in our military’s operations,” said Durbin. “As a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, I am invested in supporting mobility and logistics capabilities to ensure the readiness of our military.”
