Durbin Talks Regional Priorities With Bloomington-Normal Economic Development Council
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today met with members of the Bloomington-Normal Economic Development Council (BNEDC), which is comprised of members of local government, labor, education, health, and business sectors. During their meeting, Durbin and the BNEDC spoke about several projects in Central Illinois, including the East Street Basin Stormwater Management Project and construction of a new air cargo road at the Central Illinois Regional Airport. Durbin also received an update on the Vernon Avenue Project in Normal, Illinois, which aims to provide safe, accessible routes in the economic corridor and improve accessibility to public facilities, and learned about a partnership between Heartland College and Connect Transit to develop a Heavy-duty EV Technology Regional Training Facility.
“The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act has been a major catalyst in economic development and infrastructure improvements across the state,” Durbin said. “Today, I sat down with members of the Bloomington-Normal Economic Development Council to discuss how the federal government can continue to support Central Illinois in taking slated projects – like the EV Regional Training Facility, Vernon Avenue Project, the East Street Basin Stormwater Management Project, and a new air cargo road – from blueprints to reality.”
