Durbin urges Colleagues to Support Nomination of Myrna Pérez to the Second Circuit
Myrna Pérez would be first Latina to serve on Second Circuit since then-Judge Sonia Sotomayor
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today spoke in support of the nomination of Myrna Pérez to serve on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. In a speech on the Senate floor, Durbin highlighted Ms. Pérez’s extensive experience. The Senate will proceed to a confirmation vote on Ms. Pérez’s nomination tonight.
“[Pérez has] dedicated her career to defending America’s right to vote through her work at the Brennan Center for Justice… far too few nominees to the federal bench have significant experience handling civil rights and voting rights. In Ms. Pérez, the Senate has the opportunity to confirm a judge who will bring that experience to the bench. She understands the difference between being an advocate and a judge. I have every confidence she’ll serve with diligence, fairness, and impartiality,” Durbin said.
