Senate Confirms Arianna Freeman to Third Circuit
Freeman becomes first Black woman to sit on the Third Circuit
WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Senate confirmed Arianna Freeman to the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement regarding Freeman’s confirmation:
“Arianna Freeman is an accomplished appellate attorney who has dedicated her career to representing those seeking to vindicate their rights to due process, effective assistance of counsel, and other constitutional guarantees for criminal defendants. And today, she makes history as the first Black woman to ever sit on the Third Circuit. Along with her appellate experience and her fidelity to the Constitution and rule of law, Freeman brings much-needed professional and demographic diversity to the Third Circuit.”
In April, Freeman received an 11-11 vote in the Judiciary Committee.
The Senate has now confirmed 84 Article III judges during the 117th Congress. This includes 25 circuit court nominees, 58 district court nominees, and one Supreme Court nominee. These judges bring high levels of competence, outstanding qualifications, and greater demographic and professional diversity to our federal bench.
