Senate Confirms Chicagoan Bruce Heyman As New U.S. Ambassador to Canada
[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) released the following statements today after the Senate confirmed Bruce Heyman of Chicago, Illinois to be the next U.S. Ambassador to Canada. The Senate unanimously approved his nomination.
“I was proud to support Bruce Heyman’s confirmation to be the next U.S. Ambassador to Canada, and I am pleased that my colleagues in the Senate unanimously agree.”
“Bruce’s broad experience in international business and global affairs will prepare him well for a position that services one of America’s closest allies and largest trading partners,” Durbin said. “In a meeting in my office just over a couple of months ago, Bruce and I discussed the historic and proud relationship the United States shares with Canada. He will serve that relationship, and the American people, very well. I look forward to working with him in the future.”
In December, Durbin introduced Mr. Heyman to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, as the Committee held a hearing on his nomination to be our next ambassador to Canada. Video from that hearing is available here.
