Senate Confirms Cindy Chung To The Third Circuit Court Of Appeals
WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Senate confirmed Cindy K. Chung to the United States Circuit Court for the Third Circuit. U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement regarding Ms. Chung’s confirmation:
“Ms. Chung brings a wealth of experience to the bench. The daughter of South Korean immigrants who called Pittsburgh their first home in America, she has served Pennsylvanians as a United States Attorney and career prosecutor, including prosecuting the first Shepard-Byrd Hate Crimes Prevention Act case in the country. She earned bipartisan support for her nomination, a testament to her track record of impartiality and fair administration of justice.
“Ms. Chung now becomes the first Asian American judge to serve on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, the 99th Article III judge confirmed under President Biden, and the latest example of the Senate Judiciary Committee advancing highly qualified, diverse nominees to the federal bench.”
On February 2, 2023, Ms. Chung advanced out of the Judiciary Committee with a bipartisan vote of 11-9.
