Senate Judiciary Committee Advances 15 Judicial Nominees With Bipartisan Support

WASHINGTON – The Senate Judiciary Committee today advanced fifteen judicial nominations, the first series of judicial nominations to go to the full Senate in the 118thCongress. All fifteen advanced with bipartisan support. 

“Today, we advanced highly qualified nominees who are bringing diversity and impartiality to our justice system,” said U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee. “The Judiciary Committee is riding historic momentum from the 117th Congress, confirming 97 judges to lifetime appointments. I look forward to continuing to build on this momentum, working in a bipartisan fashion to soon confirm our 98th judge during my time as Chair and under the Biden administration.” 

The following nominees advanced with the indicated vote totals:

  • DeAndrea Gist Benjamin, to be United States Circuit Judge for the Fourth Circuit: 12-8;
  • Cindy K. Chung, to be United States Circuit Judge for the Third Circuit: 11-9;
  • Bradley N. Garcia, to be United States Circuit Judge for the District of Columbia Circuit: 11-9;
  • Maria Araújo Kahn, to be United States Circuit Judge for the Second Circuit: 11-9;
  • Daniel J. Calabretta, to be United States District Judge for the Eastern District of California: 11-9;
  • Tiffany M. Cartwright, to be United States District Judge for the Western District of Washington: 11-9;
  • Matthew L. Garcia, to be United States District Judge for the District of New Mexico: 11-9;
  • Margaret R. Guzman, to be United States District Judge for the District of Massachusetts: 11-9;
  • Lindsay C. Jenkins, to be United States District Judge for the Northern District of Illinois: 14-6;
  • Araceli Martínez-Olguín, to be United States District Judge for the Northern District of California: 11-9;
  • Gina R. Méndez-Miró, to be United States District Judge for the District of Puerto Rico: 11-9;
  • Adrienne C. Nelson, to be United States District Judge for the District of Oregon: 11-9;
  • Ana C. Reyes, to be United States District Judge for the District of Columbia: 11-9;
  • Jamar K. Walker, to be United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Virginia: 14-6; and 
  • Jamal N. Whitehead, to be United States District Judge for the Western District of Washington: 11-9.
