Senate Judiciary Committee Advances Eight Judicial Nominations To The Full Senate

WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee advanced eight judicial nominations to the full Senate, continuing the Committee’s work to bring balance to the federal judiciary. The nominations advanced include one circuit court nominee and seven district court nominees.

“In our first markup following the latest Supreme Court term, we’re reminded of the importance of the rule of law and judges who uphold it. Since Democrats took back the White House and the Senate majority in January 2021, we’ve been committed to advancing highly qualified nominations to lifetime judgeships across the federal judiciary who are reflective of the lived experiences of America. The eight nominations we voted on today uphold that standard. As the American people are demanding, we are moving forward with strength to restore balance to the federal court system,” said U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Under the leadership of Chair Durbin, the Senate has confirmed 202 judges to lifetime appointments on the federal bench during the Biden administration. Following today’s meeting, the Committee has reported 222 Article III judges to the full Senate. Now, seventeen lifetime judges – including three circuit court nominees and fourteen district court nominees – are eligible for a vote on the Senate floor.

The following nominations were reported by the indicated vote totals:

  • Embry J. Kidd, to be United States Circuit Judge for the Eleventh Circuit: 11-10
  • Adam B. Abelson, to be United States District Judge for the District of Maryland: 12-9
  • Michelle Williams Court, to be United States District Judge for the Central District of California: 11-10
  • Anne Hwang, to be United States District Judge for the Central District of California: 11-10
  • Stacey D. Neumann, to be United States District Judge for the District of Maine: 13-8
  • Joseph Francis Saporito Jr., to be United States District Judge for the Middle District of Pennsylvania: 14-7
  • Meredith A. Vacca, to be United States District Judge for the Western District of New York: 12-9
  • Cynthia Valenzuela Dixon, to be United States District Judge for the Central District of California: 11-10
